Body of missing Egyptian national found in river

SOROTI CITY | The body of an Egyptian national who has been missing in Soroti City has been found in Awoja river, police have said.
Ahmed Zinhom Selim, 32, was reported missing on Saturday, February 24, from his home in Camp Swahili Ward in Soroti City West Division.
Detectives had earlier arrested an Egyptian national who was last seen with the deceased at his home, and the deceased's Ugandan worker.
The discovery of Selim's body marks a critical development in the investigation, shedding light on the mysterious disappearance that had gripped the community.
In connection with the case, authorities have taken five individuals into custody as persons of interest.
Among them are the Ugandan worker, who had turned up at the deceased's home and claimed he had found the door locked and used a key left at the window to gain access to the home.
Police earlier told Nile Post that investigators had found signs of "foul play" in the home, prompting Soroti West Divisional Police to open a murder file murder CRB 48/2024 and, subsequently, the arrest of two suspects two days later.
Four Egyptian nationals complete the list of the suspects in custody, Police said.
SP Oscar Gregg Ageca, spokesperson for East Kyoga Region Police, confirmed the recovery of Selim's body. He said investigations will continue before the suspects are arraigned in court.
Selim was a trader who dealt in kitchenware in Soroti City.
On the day he was last seen at his home, Friday, February 23, he was reportedly in the company of three Egyptians, one of whom was arrested last Monday but the identities of the other three had not been established.
